Great success for Banchory Academy and Maroc athletes in Turkey at World Schools 2015
The team put up the best ever performance by a Scottish representation at the World Schools Championships, last week at Antalya in Turkey. MAROC members were at the forefront of that success.
Top Maroc performances at JK 2015
Over forty competitors and their families from Mar Orienteering Club (Maroc) made the most of the Bank Holiday weekend by competing in the JK International Orienteering Festival in the Lake District.
This is the UK's premier annual multi day competition attracting over 2300 competitors from around the world.
Club Development Plan
The Maroc committee and club development officer have put together a 5 year Development Plan for the club. This identifies priorities and a set of actions to achieve implementation of the plan. A copy of the Club Development Plan is available here.
2015 Spring Sprints
The DNC is well past now so it must be time for the Spring Sprints. Here's what's on offer for 2015:

- 17th April: Tillyfourie - a new area for us!
- 24th April: Tollohill (GRAMP)
- 1st May: Tilquhilllie
- 8th May: Scolty (GRAMP)
- 15th May: Dess
All are on Fridays with starts from 18:00-19:00. Just one course of Technical Difficulty 3 (around 3km with an estimated winning time of 15-20 mins) with the best 4 to count for the series. Please visit the relevant page on Gramp or MAROC websites for detail nearer each race date. Just turn up and run.
Introduction to Orienteering
Starting Apr 26th 2015
Starting on Apr 26th Maroc are running a 4 week block of introductory orienteering sessions aimed at family participation with full coaching provided.
The sessions are suitable for families with at least one child P5 or older. Both juniors and adults can participate at the same time, at levels appropriate to their age and experience.
- Apr 26th: Introductory skills coaching session, Bell Wood, Aboyne
- May 3rd: Introductory event participation, with support to complete a course, Glen Dye by Strachan
- May 10th: Further skills coaching session, Shooting Greens by Potarch
- May 17th: Event participation with coaching support, Bogendreip by Strachan
Sarah Dunn appointed to position of Club Development Officer
Following completion of the formal job posting process Sarah Dunn has been appointed to the post of MAROC Club Development Officer. This position will focus on working with the MAROC membership, and building on the previous successes of MAROC, to develop the sport in the catchment area.
Talent Squad winter training weekend, Jan 2015
As has become a tradition over the last few years Maroc Talent Squad held their winter training weekend away in suitably wintry conditions. This year they visited the Loch Tay area and took part in some tough physical and technical sessions.

River Dee Foray
The latest club run had an icy feel to it, taking in some of the wild wastelands of Dess including the middle reaches of the Dee and the Sloc of Dess waterfall. River levels were low enough to allow the novelty of a run along the chain of islands off the northern river bank. There was a healthy turnout again (in number if not in the bodily sense), and a goodly assortment of technical jackets keeping the minus degrees at bay.
