The map has been updated with many of the fallen trees from recent storms there may be some that have been missed.. The southern part of the map on the hillside has recently had forestry work clearing fallen trees and thinning. As a result there are harvester tracks all over this part of the forest. These are not marked on the map.

MAROC is pleased to host the Scottish Night Champonships at Muir of Dinnet on Royal Deeside to commemorate the 28th Anniversary of Maroc and Grampian's Deeside Night Cup Series.

In a double-header weekend Gramp OC will be holding a Regional Event on Deeside the following morning.

The Muir of Dinnet is a complex area of natural pine forest that is ideally suited to night orienteering and was the venue for the British Night Championships in February 2019.

The Event Centre will be located in Ballater with a 15 minute bus transfer to the Start and Finish location.

We have Haydn's Wood Fired Pizza at the Victoria Hall selling some delicious pizza from 8 until 10pm.

This event has now been rescheduled to Sunday the 18th of January after being posponed due to bad weather.

The traditional event to start the year at Glen O Dee. The forest still has many wind-blown areas, which have been avoided as much as possible. The Bike Park to the west of the hospital is out of bounds. Also, the area now occupying new houses is out of bounds as shown on the map. The hospital grounds are permanently out of bounds.  Some light green areas have become forest fight now and these have been avoided as much as possible. The forest is now busier than ever, with many bikers, dog walkers and horse riders. Please be courteous.

Whilst no ticks have been observed during the planning process, it has been a very mild Autumn and Winter so far. Please wear full length clothing and check for ticks after your run.

The river that dissects the map north to south is uncrossable and should not be attempted. Use only the foot bridges and road bridges

We have Dinnet Village Hall (adjacent to carpark) available for registration, warming up, socialising and refuelling after the race with warm drinks and Christmas treats.

Maroc will host the 2026 Scottish Night Championships in Muir of Dinnet on the 14th of February

A chance to visit a top-class area and run challenging TD5 courses in one of Deeside’s best areas. As used for British Night Champs 2019 – but with a different start/finish and largely different terrain.

The event will be based in Ballater Halls – with registration, download, results and prizegiving held in the warmth with plenty of options available in the village for eating/drinking after the race.

Starts and finish are near the Burn O’Vat visitor centre and competitors will be bussed from Ballater and return after race (bus MUST be used).

Courses will offer multiple challenges, technical contours, rock detail, various slopes and runnability from very fast to tough Deeside going!

A real challenge for the afficionados of night-orienteering and not a race to miss!

Make a weekend of it - the following day Gramp are offering an event at Potarch, between  Banchory and Kincardine O’Neil.

All Maroc members are invited to a Christmas social at the Banchory Guide Hut.

From 4.30 til 5.30 there will be a fun festive activity for all outside in the park. The exact format is a surprise, but it will involve dashing about in the dark with a map and headtorch in order to work up an appetite for the pot luck supper that will follow.

We will then hold our prize giving and a very short AGM.

Any competitors not complying with this will not be allowed to participate, or will be disqualified, if they do. These requirements are as much for the benefit and safety of those who volunteer to organise and plan these events, as it is for the competitors.
