Community Orienteering and Protection of the Environment
This 2-year development project in upper Deeside and Donside will provide an exciting opportunity for the local community to get involved in orienteering in the lead up to 2 major events; the Scottish 6 Days 2017 and 2018 British Orienteering Championships, both of which will be held in Deeside.

New Funding from Cairngorm LEADER for Orienteering in Deeside
The SOA has been successful in winning a grant through Cairngorm LEADER to fund a new 2-year development project in upper Deeside and Donside linked to the 2017 Scottish 6 Days and 2018 British Orienteering Championships, both of which are planned to be held in Deeside.
October Holiday Camp
I will be organising an orienteering camp for 3 mornings during the October holidays to offer training for any juniors age 9+, from beginner up to light green level. New block of introductory orienteering sessions starts 28th Aug 2016
Maroc are running a block of 4 introductory orienteering sessions aimed at family participation with full coaching provided. The first session is on Sun 28th August at Dess Woods, nr Aboyne with subsequent sessions on 4th Sep, 18th Sep and 25th Sep. Full details and application form are here.
Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon
MAROC members Craig & Alistair Chapman and Nick & Peter Collins competed in the 2016 Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon this weekend, 2nd & 3rd July. Despite the 'mixed' weather and very little sleep at the camp on Saturday night, they managed to come in 3rd and 13th respectively on the Bedafell Course - well done!

Sport Science Talk on "Performance" by Mel Edwards
Mel Edwards is a former international marathon runner with a pb of 2h 18m 24s from 1967. He is also widely regarded as a highly inspirational and popular athletics endurance coach. We are delighted that Mel has offered to give a presentation on "Performance" to members and friends of Mar Orienteering Club. Local Thursday events in June 2016
Maroc is hosting a series of 3 local events in mid Deeside on Thursday evenings during June. The events will be suitable for beginners and recent starts, both juniors and adults.
Grampian Advenure Challenge 2016
This 'corporate challenge' organised by Gramp runs in conjunction with the Wednesday evening Summer Series events and is a great opportunity to get new faces involved in orienteering.
Why not get a group together at work to compete for the 'bonsai trophy'? Events are 25th May (Hazlehead) until 29th June (Balmedie and the presentation BBQ), with 2 training events to bring your team along to on the 11th (Balmedie) and 18th May (Tilquhillie).
