MAROC Dodgers - Scottish Relay Champions

MAROC Dodgers - Scottish Relay Champions

A lower than normal contingent of Maroc members made the long journey south into Galloway for the Scottish Champs recently but the level of successful results was not depleted.  Perhaps it was the thought of another long
journey - the JK and the British Champs being in so far south this year - or exam fever but it must have been the lowest turnout at a Scottish Champs for some time.

A lower than normal contingent of Maroc members made the long journey south into Galloway for the Scottish Champs recently but the level of successful results was not depleted.  Perhaps it was the thought of another long journey - the JK and the British Champs being in so far south this year - or exam fever but it must have been the lowest turnout at a Scottish Champs for some time.

The individual races on the Saturday saw three Scottish Champions from Maroc crowned with Alistair Chapman winning M12, Eilidh Campbell winning W12 and Andy Tivendale taking the M65 title home.  Other top 3 finishes were Joseph Wright, 3rd in M14, Amber Graham, 3rd in W10, Abigail Mason was 3rd in W14, and Jennifer Rickets, 2nd in W16 but won the Scottish title as was only
beaten by a non-Scottish Lakeland orienteer.  In the seniors, Drew Tivendale couldn't quite match his Dad but managed a very respectable 3rd in M40.  The terrain was somewhat different to what we are used to in Deeside with most of the terrain open, detailed moorland.

The relays moved a bit further east on the Sunday and by the time we had the tent and flag set up the sun was on its way out again.  Maroc were able to field 5 teams for the relays, with 3 juniors and 2 handicap teams equally representing juniors and adults.  Congratulations are due to all 15 relay runners as all 5 teams came in the top 3.  Two of the junior teams won their
class; the Junior 36- team of Grant McMurtrie, Kirsty Campbell and Luke Graham and the Junior 44- team of Jake Chapman, Alasdair Chapman and Euan McMillan.  The other 36- team of Eilidh Campbell, Amber Graham and John Getliff came 3rd.  The Handicap 14+ team of Jennifer Ricketts, Rosie Getliff and Paul McMillan won their class, albeit coming 2nd to a non-competitive
team.  The other team of Andrew McMurtrie, Ross McMurtrie ("what took you so long Dad!") and Trevor Ricketts finished a respectable 2nd in the Handicap 11+ class.
