Scottish 6 Day, 2011 was a great success

Ardchattan

So another Scottish 6-Day is over. Everyone seemed to agree that once again it was a great success. As well as some excellent individual performances in the competition itself MAROCs organisational skills proved more than up to the task of arranging Day 6, ..with of course welcome assistance from our friends in STAG and ELO..

From Jon Musgrave (Day Organiser):

Hi

I'd like to thank all of the club members who helped yesterday at Ardchattan.  Both Ross Lilley, central coordinator, and Colin Mathieson, Scottish professional officer were full of praise for our day (and both had runs on the days as they were relaxed enough to leave things alone).

The club turn-out at Day 5 to dismantle the assembly area was tremendous and with British Army club help we were leaving the assembly area at 5pm - barely half an hour after the official close of the days competition.
The erection of the tents, taping and car-park layout at the day 6 site was very swift and efficient.  I'd like to specially pick out the "high altitude" start team for their efforts in carrying all the kit up the 200m climb.

On the day I was able to wander around speaking to people but had no worries (apart from my car...) to bother me all day.
Our return home on the car recovery truck was fairly memorable - I apologise if any of you were forced off the road by a racing recovery truck being driven in a demonic manner - he was determined to get us home in 4 hours... and he did!

I hope you all enjoyed your time at the Scottish 6-days and repeat my thanks for all you help in making the event such a successful one.

I hope many of you can turn up at Corsedarder on 21st August for our next club event.

Cheers
Jon

From George Esson (Controller)

Well, that's me home, I hope you are all safely back too, without undue traffic issues. I'd like to say a very well done to each of you and to the teams from your clubs. Please pass on my compliments to your folk. We had few difficulties and those we had were quite readily overcome by your respective (and combined) efforts. It was a pleasure working with you.

From Roger Coombs (Planner)

I certainly concur.

Additional special mentions to those who very kindly collected controls after a tough day and a tough week. I know it's not what folk want to do when it's a 4 hour trip home and you've already been up and down the mountain. Paul McM, Meg M, Callum R, Alastair and Catriona W, Josh D, Andy and Drew T and various STAGGERS, thank you so much. Andy and Drew, I apologise again for giving you so many of the really tough ones to collect. I really was so glad not to go up that hill again. I best not forget Trish and Calum who helped the McAdams and I no end with bracken strimming and crossing pt taping, and then t-bar, kite and SI deployment in the week before the 6 day started, and then the control waking up yesterday morning too.

And to those who asked why the start was so far up the hill. If we didn't start up there there would have been even more climbing on the courses and I'm sure you were glad there wasn't. I'm sure the view was pretty good compensation anyway. It was just unfortunate we were not able to make use of farmers quad bikes to carry the gear up - my thanks too to those who ended up carrying it.

When Terry, Drew, Andy and I left at 7pm in the pouring rain last night there was nothing left of the event except for tracks in the grass, a line of portaloos and an abandoned Scotts wagon at the field entrance.

A final note about lost property..I've 3 items that were left in the MAROC tent yesterday..

1) 1 black Regatta jacket
2) 1 black Tiso microfleece
3) 1 pr black Reebok tights

Please collect asap....otherwise they will be disposed of to a good home.

Here's to Moray 2013.

Roger
