After success in the local DNC, Joe Wright travelled down to Merthyr Mawr in South Wales last weekend where he proved his skill and fitness on a bigger stage by winning the British Night Champs M18 class by 9'. Joe stormed round the M18 course in 51.02 mins on a 7.5km course with 185m of climb and 17 controls.

Well done also to Denise Wright, taking silver in W50, Alistair Chapman 4th in M18 and Nick Hale 5th in M60.

Further afield, the Gooch family scooped an orienteering hat trick with  Matthew Gooch winning his age class at the recent Portugal O Meet, whilst Joel and Dan both took 2nd place in theirs.

"A spur-of-the-moment decision to try the POM found us running through cork oak forests and olive groves at half-term, on some of the fastest terrain I’ve ever run in. Four days of warm(ish)-weather race training. One urban middle, a forest middle and two forest long events (and a bonus night sprint), near the town of Evora to get the season off to a good start. A couple of thousand competitors, mostly from around Europe, were doing the same thing (or maybe just having a holiday), including some top elite runners."
