Congratulations to all the MAROC juniors that made the trip to Northern Ireland for the JK Festival last weekend and represented MAROC very well.  The weather stayed mostly dry and warm and the competition areas were quite technically challenging especially Tyrella South which is a large area of sand dunes - unforgiving if you lost touch with your map.

Rhona McMillan had a great Sprint race around Stranmillis University College to come 3rd in W16,  and Jake Chapman did equally well,  coming 3rd in M12.

At tricky Tyrella, on the first day of the Individual competition, the Maroc juniors produced some solid, if not spectacular performances; Alistair Chapman was 4th in M10A, Abi Mason was 6th in W12A, Jenny Ricketts was 5th in W14A,  Frances Wright was 7th in W16A and Finlay Langan was 6th in M18 Elite.

The open slopes of Slieve Croob on Day 3 produced fast times despite big climbs and Rosie Getliff was 10th in W14A, Abi Mason was 7th in W12A, Rhona McMillan came 7th in W16A, Alistair Chapman was 3rd in M10A earning a Bronze medal overall, Jake Chapman was 2nd in M12A finishing 4th overall, and Jenny Ricketts was 1st in W14A,  picking up a Silver medal overall, and top British finisher.

It was a very well-organised weekend by NIOA,  setting a high standard for SOA to follow next year.

Congatulations to Rhona McMillan who has today been selected to represent Great Britain in the European Youth Orienteering Championships which are being held from Thursday 23rd– Sunday 26thJune 2011 in Jindrichuv Hradec, Czech Republic.

Following GRAMP's local Bennachie event on 17th April congratulations to the following juniors who have earnt Badge awards:

Grant McMurtrie,  for earning a White Badge at Gold standard
Danny Skinner for earning a Yellow Badge award at Bronze standard
Iain Campbell for earning a Light Green Badge at Gold standard
Callum Roberts for earning a Blue Badge at Silver standard

The next event is Bellwood on Sunday which is a level D.  This means it counts towards Participation Badges but not colour badges or Jon Duncan.  You might consider using this event to try a more difficult course than usual.  If in doubt ask Denise or another coach for advice.  Details on the MAROC website.
