On Wednesday 8th December the third round of the Deeside Night Cup was held in the north west end of Shooting Greens woods.

If the conditions on the courses the previous week at Raemoir were considered tough, then those on offer at Shooting Greens were even more extreme. The snowpack was deep everywhere but ranged in consistency from firm and weight bearing to very soft in the open areas. Organiser John Mason had shortened the courses to accommodate the difficult conditions, but even so the long course proved too challenging for some.

Dan Gooch (Maroc) made it 3 wins out of 3 in the Night Cup, winning in 57’ a clear 10’ ahead of 2nd placed Jon Musgrave (Maroc) , although Jon had been seriously handicapped by being the first person out in the forest and breaking trail the whole way round. The short course was won by Grampian youngster Jack Gomersall in 60’, 5’ ahead of John Lang.
