01st Dec 10

On the evening of Wed 1st Dec the second round of the Deeside Night Cup, organised by Dave Kirk (Grampian Orienteers), was held at Raemoir.

Snow was deep in the forest and had necessitated shortening of the courses but competitors were still faced with physically challenging courses that took them high up on the hill above the tree line. It was a good night for late starters as the early runners had to break trail through the snow. By the time the later runners got going there was a good clear trench which not only made the running easier but also helped simplify the navigation.

Dan Gooch (Maroc) repeated his victory from the previous week, winning the long course in 45’, three minutes clear of Roger Coombs (Maroc) in 2nd and Doug Guy (Gramp) 3rd. Richard Oxlade (Gramp) was a clear winner in 49’ on the short course, 9’ ahead of John Mason (Maroc). Event registration and computer download was hosted in the bar of Raemoir House Hotel which provided warm comfortable surroundings and hospitality for competitors when they came in out of the snow.
