Some 35 club members travelled over the hill for a weekend of quality socialising and training in Speyside on Sep 1st-2nd. Everyone met up at Inshriach forest on Saturday morning where the more experienced practiced their contour interpretation whilst the youngsters were thrown into a maze of rides in a chequer board plantation. After lunch, there was a choice of complex contour only challenges for the brave and a simpler introduction to contours for the sensible. The younger generation doubled their training distance with a seemingly endless pine cone forest battle. In the evening a vast mound of pasta and bolognese sauce appeared as if by magic in the hostel at Nethybridge and disappeared almost as quickly. Entertainment to suit all tastes was provided by Catching Features, Quick Route, Strava, Toy Story, Dr Who, the pool table, table football and some liquid refreshment. On Sunday morning the serious business of training resumed at Moor of Alvie with a short technique session on bearings practice and a line course. This was followed up by the most fun part of the weekend (according to a brief straw poll of under 10s) with a mixed fun relay. Teams of 4 had 8 courses to run between them with any 2 runners out at one time and the running order chosen by the team. Winners of the Haribo trophy were Callum, Katie, Jake, Gemma and Ruth.
“Fab weekend – have we got next year booked yet?” (Ann)
“I liked the relays and staying at the hostel” (Iona)
“ I enjoyed the relays most” (Alistair)
“I enjoyed everything” (Jake)
“The relays” (Matthew, Joel and Ewan)
