Junior success has become the norm in the MAROC world so it’s good to be able to report on senior club members also competing at the sharp end.

Helen Palmer and Duncan Coombs have both been chosen for the pool of athletes from which the GB team for the World Championships 2013 will be selected and with John Rocke recently having moved to Aberdeen and joined MAROC things are looking up on the senior front. Read on for more on their plans and photos.

Junior success has become the norm in the MAROC world so it’s good to be able to report on senior club members also competing at the sharp end.

Helen Palmer and Duncan Coombs have both been chosen for the pool of athletes from which the GB team for the World Championships 2013 will be selected.

Helens season restarts this coming weekend with three Norwegian Cup races in Østfold. First a sprint race with touch-free punching using EMIT-tag wristbands! Then a traditional middle distance with individual start which will also decide the start times for a chasing start long distance. The following weekend -barring any team changes- she'll be running leg 2 in the women's relay at TioMila for her Norwegian club, Lillomarka’s,  1st team. There are two more rounds of the Norwegian Cup in late May before she starts more specific preparation for the WOC selection races.
Duncan, fresh from running 2 hours 40 mins at last weekend’s London marathon, will also be targeting Tio-Mila. He’ll be running leg 7 for his Oslo club, IL Tyrvings 1st team. Maintaining orienteering competitiveness is currently quite a challenge for Duncan with his current home base being Cambridge.

John Rocke has recently moved to Aberdeen and has clearly made a good choice in joining MAROC! Some of you may have seen him around. He teamed up with Duncan and Callum Roberts to run for MAROC in the JK Open relay in early April.
