Braemar Mountain Festival

2-4th Mar 2018

We will be hosting some introductory orienteering events suitable for all at the Braemar Mountain Festival at the beginning of March. There will be 3 sessions on Fri, Sat and Sun afternoon which will take place in Creag Choinnich woodland and up onto Carn nan Sgliat.

Orienteering is an excellent way of practising skills for application to mountain navigation, with the particular bonus that there is an opportunity to successively repeat and reinforce skills over a short duration.

Participants in the morning festival navigation sessions may wish to test out their new skills by trying out the afternoon orienteering courses.

22nd Jan 18

Fri afternoon will be a 60' score orienteering challenge suitable for anyone with a basic understanding of navigation. The challenge is to find (in any order) as many control points as possible within a maximum time period of 1 hour.

Sat afternoon will be an introductory session suitable either for solo / groups of youths or families. No prior experience in navigation is necessary.

Sun afternoon will involve a "So you think you can navigate" Challenge targeted especially at mountaineers and those with some prior navigational experience. Participants should have some knowledge of how to use map and compass and moderate levels of fitness to tackle steep and rough terrain.

More details about the sessions can be found by following the links from our events page here

Registration for the events should be made through the Braemar Mountain Festival website
