Be ACE Training starts 4th April 2012

A reminder that the first week of the Be ACE (Become a Compass Expert) Wednesday evening training sessions starts this week (4th April). The first two weeks are in Dess Woods, with parking at Deeside Activity Park (grid ref NJ 567012). Registration will be open from 6:30pm and courses will close at 8:00pm. Please follow the signs/ tapes from the car park into the forest where we will meet / register / start and finish (~500m).
Adults note - these sessions are planned for your benefit too!
Fees adults £2, juniors £1

There will be training sessions to suit all abilities and ages from beginner through intermediate to advanced - see below for a preliminary outline of the plans for the 6-week programme. It's not essential to attend every week, but progression will be easier if you come along regularly.
For beginners, it would be helpful if you could arrive in time for a briefing and coaching assistance at 6:45pm. Please bring a compass if you have one. For others, we will provide coaching assistance as time permits and will provide weekly notes decribing the exercises and how to tackle them. If you have a GPS watch, please bring it with you as it will be a useful training aid.

Beginner (white / yellow course standard)
Week 1: Learning to take fixed bearings
Week 2: More practice on fixed bearings
Week 3: Using features to aim for
Week 4: Using bearings to cut corners
Week 5: More coner cutting
Week 6: Practice makes perfect

Intermediate (orange / light green standard)
Week 1: Revision of basic compass techniques
Week 2: Further basic compass practice
Week 3: Learning to use rough compass
Week 4: Finding controls away from line features – basic attack point technique
Week 5: More practice on using compass to find controls in the forest
Week 6: Straight line challenge

Advanced (green standard and above)
Week 1: Revision of basic compass technique
Week 2: Technique consolidation
Week 3: Running in a straight line
Week 4: Compass from attackpoints
Week 5: Straight line challenge
Week 6: Blank map challenge
