There were many MAROC Individual and Relay successes at this years BOC held near Sheffield last weekend.

A strong contingent of 25 members of Mar Orienteering Club travelled to Sheffield last weekend to take part in the British Orienteering Individual and Relay Championships and were rewarded by bringing back a clutch of trophies and medals to Deeside.

The individual age class championships took place in Wharncliffe Woods which provided rough and challenging terrain with a mix of complex rock and mining detail on steep escarpment slopes and faster vague areas of forest. In the junior classes, Alistair Chapman improved on his recent third place at the JK International to become British Champion in M10. Abigail Mason and Rhona McMillan also ran great races to take the silver medals in W12 and W16 respectively. Frances Wright just missed out on a medal finishing in 4th place in a strong W16 field. There were further medals for Maroc in the Veteran age classes with Jon Musgrave (M45) and Sarah Dunn (W40) both just managing to hold off strong local competition to retain their British titles for the third year in a row. Andy Tivendale took the bronze medal in M65.

The following day the action moved a short distance further north to Tankersley Woods for the British relay championships in which clubs compete as teams of three over various age class courses. The area provided a top class relay venue with fast running underfoot but fine detail reflecting its industrial heritage created by bell pits, bomb craters and a myriad of paths. Top result of the day for Maroc was the team of Abigail Mason, Megan Ricketts and Jennifer Ricketts who won the W14 class by a whopping 12 minute margin. Jake Chapman, Alistair Chapman and Joseph Wright also ran a great race to finish 2nd in the highly competitive M/W12 mini relay. The team of Brad Arthur, Sarah Dunn and Craig Chapman added further to the medal tally for the club finishing in 2nd place in the Mixed AdHoc class. There was a great team spirit amongst all the club members which undoubtedly contributed to the successes of the weekend."
