We are pleased to say that the club has been successful in its application to the SOA Development Fund for help with the "Semi-Permanent Orienteering Course Implementation" project. The club is planning to put out semi-permanent courses in five of our local areas for use by schools and casual users.

The controls will be similar to those used at the semi-permanent course at Bennachie Forest - made of wood with a pin punch attached by wire.  Every 6 months or so the course will be re-planned and the controls moved to new locations - to provide users with a new challenge and to avoid tracks developing at control sites.
Maps will be available for download (free of charge) from the Maroc website and a note of number of registered users will be made for feedback. The Active Schools Coordinators form several of the Primary school networks and academies are planning to use the courses with their schools - P5 classes are scheduled to have orienteering sessions next spring and this will include visits to these courses.  The areas are located near to villages and towns in Deeside - Braemar, Aboyne, Kincardine O'Neil/Lumphanan and Banchory.

We are very grateful to the SOA for the £750 grant. The money is being used to update those of the maps that are out of date and to buy the materials for the control units.  It is hoped that the manufacturing of the units can be carried out by Criminal Justice workshops.
