Try the longest Orienteering Leg in the U.K!
Fancy a challenge one day this winter?
Why not have a go at the longest orienteering leg in the UK now that the vegetation has subsided somewhat and the snow is yet to come: Glen Tanar to Ballogie, through Glen Tanar, Birsemore and Balfour. Click on the map to see the full leg marked on it. Its about 11.5k with +600m elevation gain. It's been run a few times in recent years and certainly easiest when the vegetation is down.
If you want to do it in its purest form try straight lining it, sticking strictly and accurately to the west to east direction,.The only deviations allowed are, if it is necessary to avoid any stock in fields at Newmill, and also so you don't have to run through the kitchens of Ballogie House! Respect any OOB on the map too.
As usual please be respectful of anyone or anything you meet along the way. Use common sense for further avoidance actions.
Free liquid refreshment of your choice at the finish at Craobhach, Ballogie (if we have it in the cupboard, and if someone is in!) for all successful "completers".
