Maroc would like to warmly welcome you to Sluie Woods for the Scottish Relay Championships 2022. Sluie is situated 14km west of Banchory and 2 km east of the Deeside village of Kincardine O’Neil. The event will offer all the thrill of a relay race with mass starts, spectator control and exciting viewing of the handovers and finishers from the assembly field. We are indebted to Kincardine Estate for allowing us to use Sluie for this prestigious event.

The relays follow the Scottish Individual Championships organised by GRAMP on the Saturday at Glen Dye, less than 10km from Sluie Woods.

Terrain

Sluie Woods, like many forests in Northeast Scotland have been badly damaged by a series of winter storms. Courses have been carefully planned to avoid the worst areas of windblown trees and the map has been updated to show the direction and density of fallen trees. Large areas of the runnable forest with detailed rock and contour features have been unaffected by the storms whilst those areas affected provide additional variety and a new navigational challenge. Major events previously held on the area include the Scottish 6 Days in 1993 and the World Universities Relay Championships in the early 2000s.

Courses and Classes

There will be six Scottish Relay Champions: M/W36-, M/W44-, Junior, Men’s Open, Women’s Open and Age-Class.

The philosophy is that any combination of sexes and ages is allowed and catered for, by using a system of ‘handicap’ points. The Scottish Age-class Champions will be the first eligible team from any of course combinations 2-6 to finish. The Scottish Junior Champions will the first eligible team of three M/W10-20s from any of course combinations 2-6.

Note: All final legs in classes 2-6 run ‘C’ on the final leg to enhance competition.

Approximate course lengths are shown in the table below, subject to final controlling.

Teams may be made up from competitors from two neighbouring clubs which have formed an alliance. This is to allow teams to compete where individual clubs have insufficient competitors to make their own teams. This applies to all classes. To be Scottish Champions, all team members must be members of a Scottish Club.

Classes 1 to 6 will have a combined mass start at 11.30am with the juniors starting at 11.45.

String Course

It is hoped to have a string course close to the assembly area.

Entries

Course Combinations 1 to 6:       £48 per team

Course Combinations 7 and 8:    £24 per team

Entries will be open on SI Entries from early April. Closing date will be midnight on Sunday 15^th May although it will be possible to add or change team members after this.

Safety and Risk

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event.

Please note that a lost hire SI-Card will be charged for at a rate of £30, unless the Club Commitee agrees that there are special circumstances.
