I hope you all enjoyed what was a bit of a different DNC on Wednesday night? Unfortunately, there were a few mispunches for various reasons - Dennis, hope you are okay; Evie, sorry your torch failed but maybe you should charge it yourself next time; as well as a few people who seem to have been confused by the multiple butterflies.  Control #148 (#3 on the Long) was not registering the later runners, so I’ve re-instated these and made your #2-#3 split 3 minutes.

Thanks to Ross and Josh who helped me collect controls after their run - my (old) headtorch failed after collecting the first control, so had to collect the other 5 with a dimly light little Petzl!!  Thanks to Sheila too who helped with downloading brikkes, results, etc, once we got back home.
Preliminary results are attached.  Routegadget will appear soon but with an early flight tomorrow morning, I’ve run out of time tonight!

Pre Event Info

Event 5 of the DNC is at Glen o’ Dee, in Banchory.  We will be using the Banchory West map at 1:4,000 – so an A3 maps – and a few of the legs will be of an ‘urban’/street nature but don’t worry there is plenty of dark legs in the forest.  As such, dobbs are not recommended.  I plan to have separate control descriptions so bring a holder if you prefer to use these.

There are several controls used twice and even one used three times, so please take care when reading the map as there are a few butterflies – and remember to check control numbers!  I hope the courses offer some fast running through the forest and on some of the streets but also some route choice on some legs and suitable punishment for those who don’t take care to read the street O sections and run up a dead end!

Parking is at NO684984, which is beside the tennis courts and curling pond in Burnett Park.  The Long is 5.5km and the Short 3.9km.  I will try to be ready for 17:30.

Safety and Risk

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event.
Participants in orienteering should be aware of the risk of tick bites - more information here.

SPORTident timing will be used

Please note that a lost hire SI-Card will be charged for at a rate of £30, unless the Club Commitee agrees that there are special circumstances.
